AfterPay will change its name to Riverty

As from Oct. 4, the name change from AfterPay to Riverty took effect. For the upcoming time, you will see a co-branded logo in the checkout showing both names. 'A gentle transition' as AfterPay calls it. Buckaroo will of course update the checkout plugins with the new logo.

The name Riverty is a combination of "River" and "Liberty. A naturally managed financial stream that gives businesses and consumers a measure of freedom.

Good to know

  • Until Oct. 3, nothing visibly changes - you will continue to use the existing AfterPay logo on online stores, apps and elsewhere.
  • October 4 will see the launch of the new name: Riverty. On specific touchpoints, such as in checkout, you will continue to see the AfterPay brand in a combined logo and as a descriptive line under the new logo.
  • As of Oct. 4, the name change has been implemented in Buckaroo's payment plugins, which can be downloaded and updated via GitHub.

Update your payment plugin

Buckaroo makes sure your checkout has the right logo. Do you use a Buckaroo payment plugin? For example, for Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Shopware, Lightspeed, an API or SDK? The new plugins will be posted on Github or in the relevant App Store or eCom environment in the near future.

Keep in mind that through your own Content Management System you have to modify the web pages where you have explanations about your payment methods. For example, the frequently asked questions or terms and conditions page.

The thought behind the name

AfterPay is part of international financial services company Arvato Bertelsman, both will gradually merge into one brand name: Riverty. For a healthy financial (river) flow. This also gives AfterPay the space to offer more payment and financial services in the future than just post-payment.

‘Buy now pay later’ stays high on demand

The need to buy first and pay later has never been greater. Research by AfterPay Arvato shows that 57% of consumers plan to choose an after-payment option during checkout in the next 12 months, 35% of them are actively looking for online stores that offer buy now, pay later. This research also reveals that 97% of consumers would still choose AfterPay when a co-branded logo with the Riverty name is visible in the checkout.

"While our branding is changing, our service level is not changing. People will still be able to track and manage their purchases (pay, pause, notify us of returns) and bill through the Riverty app and MyRiverty, but in a new look and feel."
