About The Ocean Cleanup
Initially a great idea, now a good cause. The Ocean Cleanup was initiated by Boyan Slat. In 2012, the Dutchman invented a way to clean up plastic soup in the ocean on a large scale. When the Ocean Cleanup project started, it immediately raised international attention. You can donate money via the website in several currencies and the process is easily accessible.

We aim to offer our donors as much payment convenience as possible, tailoring it to their specific needs. We know in which country donors are resident. Based on this information, we offer them a customized range of payment methods, such as PayPal and credit cards. It wouldn’t make sense to offer iDEAL to an American.”

Regular or one-off donations
The donations module is kept as accessible as possible, offering a limited amount of payment options. Donations to The Ocean Cleanup can be made in euros or dollars (USD). Donors fill in the amount they would like to contribute and decide whether they want to make a regular or one-off donation. Both regular and one-off donations are automatically processed by Buckaroo.

Donations have to feel like custom work
The Ocean Cleanup prefers to be creative in offering the most accessible payment method. It’s not all about big investments, small(er) private donations are just as welcome. Femke’s advice? Pretend you’re the donor and think about their needs.
